Immigration Biometrics Collection Coming to Happy Valley-Goose Bay in Early 2027

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador announced on October 7, 2026, that federal immigration biometrics collection services are expected to become available in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador, in early 2027. The announcement concerns a planned future service expansion, not a collection site that is already operating.

What is changing

According to the provincial government, Happy Valley-Goose Bay is expected to become Newfoundland and Labrador's second location for immigration biometrics collection. At present, the province's biometrics service is available in St. John's, requiring some Labrador residents to travel for appointments.

Immigration biometrics generally involve fingerprints and a photograph used to confirm identity during an immigration application. The planned Labrador service is intended to reduce travel barriers for eligible applicants, including newcomers, workers, students and families living in the region.

When will appointments be available?

The province says the service is on track to begin in early 2027. The October 7 announcement does not give a specific opening date or appointment-booking instructions. Applicants should not assume appointments can already be booked at the new location.

What applicants should do

Applicants who receive a biometrics instruction letter should continue to follow the directions and deadlines in their own application and use official Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada guidance to locate an operating collection site. The new Labrador location should be treated as a future option until federal service details are published.
