Canada Immigration Update: BC PNP Priorities and Newfoundland & Labrador Invitations

Two provincial immigration developments published after Lifeline’s last cutoff were not included in the current weekly draft: British Columbia released new information on 2026 nomination priorities for health-care and child-care workers, and Newfoundland and Labrador issued 140 invitations through its economic immigration selection system.

Both developments are relevant to applicants considering Provincial Nominee Program pathways and should be added to Lifeline’s weekly Canada Immigration Update coverage.

British Columbia Releases New 2026 BC PNP Nomination Priorities

The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) released its 2025 Statistical Report and Year in Review on August 26, 2026. WelcomeBC confirmed the report’s release and said it includes program statistics, strategic priorities and performance measures.

According to figures reported from that provincial report, British Columbia intends to issue between 1,620 and 2,015 nominations to workers in priority health-care occupations during 2026, and between 360 and 440 nominations to early childhood educators.

British Columbia’s total BC PNP allocation for 2026 is 6,254 nominations after the province received an additional 1,000 nomination spaces from the federal government in August.

What This Means for BC PNP Candidates

The new targets reinforce British Columbia’s emphasis on priority occupations, particularly health care and early childhood education. However, a provincial target does not create automatic eligibility or guarantee an invitation.

Candidates should review the current BC PNP stream requirements, occupation criteria, job-offer requirements and invitation rules before relying on the published targets when planning an application.

Newfoundland and Labrador Issues 140 Immigration Invitations

Newfoundland and Labrador’s Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism issued 140 Invitations to Apply on August 26, 2026.

The province’s official invitation table shows that 94 invitations were issued through the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP) and 46 through the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP).

Newfoundland and Labrador uses an Expression of Interest model for economic immigration. Candidates who receive an invitation may proceed to submit a full application under the applicable provincial or Atlantic pathway, subject to the program’s requirements.

What This Means for Newfoundland and Labrador Candidates

The August 26 round shows that the province continues to issue invitations in batches through both the NLPNP and AIP.

An invitation is not the same as permanent residence approval. Candidates must still submit the required application, meet program criteria and complete the federal permanent residence process where applicable.

What This Canada Immigration Update Means for Applicants

These provincial developments show why applicants should monitor individual provincial programs in addition to federal Express Entry news. Provinces can adjust nomination priorities, issue targeted invitations and allocate limited nomination spaces based on local labour-market needs.

Applicants considering a provincial pathway should evaluate the province, occupation, job offer, work experience, language ability and current program criteria together rather than treating a single draw or nomination target as proof of eligibility.
