Canada’s Sudan Temporary Immigration Measures Reach October 27, 2026 Deadline

Canadian immigration authorities continue to list October 27, 2026 as the end date for certain temporary immigration measures for Sudanese nationals and eligible family members in Canada. People who may qualify should review their status and the latest official instructions promptly. No extension beyond that date was confirmed in the official guidance reviewed for this article.

Which Sudan measures are affected?

IRCC's temporary measures for Sudanese nationals in Canada allow eligible applicants to request extensions or changes to temporary resident status with certain application and biometric fee exemptions. A separate set of measures applies to eligible family members of Canadian citizens or permanent residents who fled Sudan and entered Canada before July 15, 2023. These family-member provisions can cover applications for open work permits, study permits, visitor records and certain other documents.

Does the deadline affect every Sudan immigration pathway?

No. The October 27 date relates to the specified temporary measures. IRCC separately lists the family-based permanent residence pathway for people affected by the Sudan conflict as closed. Its general prioritization of certain applications from people living in Sudan is described separately. Applicants should not assume every Sudan-related immigration measure shares the same deadline.

What should affected applicants do?

Check the applicable IRCC eligibility page and the status shown in your immigration account. Review whether you have valid temporary resident status, which application type is appropriate, and which supporting documents or fee exemptions apply. IRCC's published public policies state that complete applications received before the applicable policy expires can continue to be processed under that policy. An application filed after expiry may be subject to different rules.

This article reflects official guidance available at the time of review, not confirmation of a new extension or individualized legal advice. Applicants should verify the latest instructions directly with IRCC or seek advice from an authorized immigration professional.
