Canada Immigration Update: Philippines Work Permit Wait Rises to 7 Weeks as Super Visa Processing Improves

IRCC's first September processing-time update shows mixed movement for applicants applying from the Philippines. The estimated processing time for an outside-Canada work permit rose to 7 weeks on September 2, 2026, while the Super Visa estimate fell to 93 days. Study permit and visitor visa estimates for the Philippines were 4 weeks and 18 days, respectively.

These figures are processing-time estimates, not guarantees or deadlines. Actual timelines can vary depending on application complexity, inventory, processing capacity, requests for additional documents and other case-specific factors.

What Changed for Applicants from the Philippines?

Work Permit Processing Time

The reported Philippines work-permit estimate increased from 5 weeks on August 26 to 7 weeks on September 2. That is a two-week increase from the previous weekly update.

Applicants should not interpret the change as a fixed waiting period for every application. IRCC describes processing times as estimates intended to help applicants understand how long most applications may take under current conditions.

Study Permit Processing Time

The Philippines study-permit estimate remained at 4 weeks in the September 2 update, unchanged from August 26.

Visitor Visa Processing Time

The visitor-visa estimate for applications from the Philippines decreased from 20 days on August 26 to 18 days on September 2.

Super Visa Processing Time

The Philippines Super Visa estimate improved from 104 days on August 26 to 93 days on September 2, a decrease of 11 days.

What These Processing Times Mean

Processing times and service standards are different measures. IRCC's processing-time tool provides estimates to help applicants plan, while service standards are departmental performance targets. Neither should be treated as a guaranteed completion date for an individual application.

Processing times can move from one update to the next as IRCC's inventory, application volumes and processing capacity change.

What Applicants Should Do

If you are preparing a Canadian temporary residence application, use the current IRCC processing-time tool when planning around travel, employment or study dates. Make sure the application is complete and respond promptly if IRCC requests additional information or documents.

For applicants from the Philippines, this week's update is a reminder that different application categories can move in opposite directions at the same time: the work-permit estimate increased while visitor-visa and Super Visa estimates decreased.
