A Labor Market Impact Assessment is a document that an employer in Canada may require before hiring a foreign worker who is already inside Canada. As an employer, the LMIA is the first step to hiring a foreign worker. The employer is required to demonstrate that no Canadian citizen or permanent resident in Canada is qualified and available to take the caregiver job with the employer and that the employment offer meets all the necessary legislative and program requirements.

WHAT IS LIFELINE’S ROLE IN ASSISTING WORK PERMIT APPLICATIONS?
A foreign national who has a valid offer of employment from a legitimate employer in Canada may apply for a work permit and permanent residence through the new Home Caregiver Pilot programs. The spouse can apply for an Open Work Permit and the children for study permits. This is in addition to specific requirements that the job and Immigration Canada requires. Lifeline assists in the application procedure.
